Polyphonica, Musica & Camerata Junior
One hundred and twenty voices and thirty young string performers join in a Christmas concert for all ages!
Three large ensembles –Polyphonica cross-cultural children's choir, Musica Mixed Adult Choir, and Camerata Junior String Orchestra – present original vocal music from all around the world, creating a wonderful Christmas holiday atmosphere.
The Polyphonica cross-cultural music family is an opportunity for children aged 5–17, regardless of ethnic or national background, to participate free of charge in music and arts-focused group activities, directed by the music conductors and educators Mariza Vamvoukli, Elsa Kundig, Myrto Ticof and Elli Kosteletou. Today, it counts some 200 members. Available sections include a choir, a workshop of contemporary dance, African dance and percussion, theater, and ukulele, as well as a choir based on Mytilene for refugee, immigrant, and vulnerable Greek children.
Musica – Friends of Music Society choir is addressed to adults who love choral music; members are selected by audition. The choir currently has 85 members. The choir is directed by music conductor and educator Dimitris Bouzanis. Also operated by the Friends of Music Society is the Camerata Junior string orchestra, which has evolved into a promising music ensemble – a greenhouse for future artists in Greek and international professional orchestras. Today, it has some 60 members, aged 7–25. The Camerata Junior is directed by the Athens State Orchestra’s principal violinist, Dimitris Semsis.
