Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra – Zoi Tsokanou – Daniel Müller-Schott
The Thessaloniki State Symphony State Orchestra, which currently employs 110 musicians, will give its first Athenian performance conducted by its new artistic director, the talented principal conductor Zoi Tsokanou, together with the accomplished German cellist Daniel Müller-Schott. Tsokanou has received several accolades at international competitions and has collaborated in recent years with numerous orchestras and operas all over Europe. Young Daniel Müller-Schott is widely considered one of the most talented cellists of his generation, having worked with several internationally acclaimed orchestras and conductors (Vladimir Ashkenazy, Charles Dutoit, Christoph Eschenbach, Kurt Masur, Sakari Oramo) and having several albums under his belt. Already at the age of 15 Müller-Schott stood out when he won first prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition. He has been praised several times for his technique and has been proclaimed “a fearless player with technique to burn” (New York Times) and an artist who “plays with existential urgency” (Stuttgarter Nachrichten). The play list will include Dvořák’s Cello Concerto in B minor and Shostakovich’s popular, uplifting Symphony No. 5.
