Picasso and Antiquity. Line and Clay @ The Museum of Cycladic Art. Don't miss it! :)

Picasso and Antiquity. Line and Clay | 20/06/2019 - 20/10/2019 | Museum of Cycladic Art

The exhibition Picasso and Antiquity. Line and Clay is part of the series of exhibitions ‘Divine Dialogues’ organized by the Museum of Cycladic Art. Picasso is well-known for creating numerous brilliant paintings. However, his sketches, engravings and ceramics are less well-known; his ceramics, in particular, derive inspiration from the Cretan, Mycenaean and ancient Greek civilization. In the exhibition Picasso and Antiquity. Line and Clay, rare Picasso works, depicting sea creatures, animals, human figures, mythological episodes, scenes inspired from ancient tragedies and comedies, find themselves juxtaposed with ancient artifacts, thus creating a true “Divine Dialogue.” Picasso was exposed to ancient art, not only through the ancient monuments he visited in the Mediterranean, but also through the various classical museums in Europe, through books and through his discussions with Christian Zervos and Jean Cocteau. Organised with the exceptional support of the Musée national Picasso-Paris on the occasion of the Picasso-Méditerranée
